While Montverde's RJ Barrett gained most of the attention at the Geico Nationals, University School's Vernon Carey and Scottie Barnes really impressed me the most. Vernon Carey is a high skilled lefty with the combination of strength and finesse. He has a pro body already as a junior, but what caught my eye was his outside shooting touch and ability to put the ball on the floor. His ceiling is extremely high.
Scottie Barnes length was intriguing. I would predict his wingspan is anywhere between 6'10" and 7'2", monstrous for a high school basketball player, who plays the wing at 6'6". In addition, he showed a tremendous amount of heart and confidence in the championship game, going head to head with RJ Barrett, the tournaments all time leading scorer and MVP.
