2014-2015 ESPN Ranking #54
2014-2015 NBC Sports Ranking #64

Personal Note: Ranks Top 20 in scoring at Penn State

Strengths:
  • Strength and size at his position
  • Creates more of his scoring opportunities off of the dribble
  • Wants to create at the rim off the drive, bulls his way to the paint
  • Good rebounder from the off guard position
  • Knows how to attack defenders closing out
Weaknesses:
  • Doesn't have a lot of lift on his jump shot or on the drive
  • Quickness defensively

Bottom Line:
Newbill is a big strong shooting guard with an NBA ready body, but standing between 6’2-6’4” he may give up some height. He’s not projected to be selected in the 2015 draft, but may be a steal in free agency. He
creates more of his scoring opportunities off of the bounce, but is a solid spot up shooter. Doesn't have a lot of lift on his jump shot or on the drive. Uses body and strength to play a complete inside out game. He is extremely patient and will not force the issue, rarely takes questionable shots. Great basketball I.Q. Has proven to be a decent facilitator, he will make the extra pass and penetrates and kicks to teammates. Uses off ball screens to get open looks very well. He will need to tighten up his ball handling at the next level. Good rebounder from the off guard position, you’ll often see him mixing it up in the paint. He is not extremely quick or fast, but knows how to use his tools. Newbill is a good leader, with a great attitude and as an older player (22, DOB May 22, 1992) it’s expected. You constantly see him gathering his teammates after dead balls, leading huddles, picking up teammates, and encouraging. Defensively he competes, displays effort. He guards 3 positions now, not sure if it’ll transfer over at the next level.
